Biographies: Carlos Zerpa

Bio

(1950 – present)

Painter & mixed media artist. He studied at the Instituto Politécnico de Milán (1974-1976), the Escuela de Arte Cova de Milán (1976-1977) and the Instituto de Expresión Colombiano (1977). He begins to participate in exhibits from the year 1970 onwards. In 1978 he presents 1 performance and 2 films at the Teatro Ramón Zapata. In the year of 1980 he presents the exhibit “Cada Cual con su Santo Propio”. In 1985 he presents “Grr”, granting him a reputation of being one of the Venezuelan artists at the forefront of the artistic landscape during the 1980's. He participates at the LVI Salón Arturo Michelena in 1998, year in which he moves forward from his conceptuaist art style onto one that can be described as more object-driven, as evidenced by his assemblies, paintings & publications. He has taught assembly & performance classes at IUESAPAR and the Centro de Humanidades de Baja California, Mexico.
