Bio

(1942-2014)

The work of Ana Mercedes Hoyos is one of the most outstanding achievements of Latin American art of the late twentieth and early twenty-first century. Her work was consistent with her creative spirit; As a painter, she achieved a wisdom and a rare delicacy in Colombian art, and as a sculptor, modality to which she dedicated herself in her last years, she opened new paths and made symbols whose reach, both artistic and social, will endure indefinitely.

In each of her stages, Hoyos contributed a singular and eloquent point of view and a particularity perfected link with her artistic and human values. Her name will endure in art history as an example of talent and recursion, as that of an artist for whom the obvious was never a decoy and as a painter who, without interfering in the selfish arts of art, managed to execute some of the most sensitive and intelligent works that have emerged from Colombian society.
